The captain in command of missing AirAsia Flight QZ8501 had a total of 6,100 flying hours, according to AirAsia Indonesia.
In a statement on Sunday, it said that there were two pilots, four flight attendants and one engineer on board, adding that the first officer had a total of 2,275 flying hours.
Flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore lost contact with Indonesian air traffic control at 7.24am local time.
The flight took off from Juanda International Airport in Surabaya at 5.35am local time.
The aircraft was an Airbus A320-200 with the registration number PK-AXC.
According to AirAsia Indonesia, there were 155 passengers on board, with 138 adults, 16 children and an infant.
Nationalities of passengers and crew on board include one Singaporean, one Malaysian, a French, three South Koreans and 156 Indonesians.
Search and rescue operations are being carried out under the guidance of the Indonesia of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The aircraft had undergone its last scheduled maintenance on Nov 16 this year.
